I'm slowly working my way through all of the events that I've been to over the last couple of months, and I can finally tell you guys about this one! This event was actually a complete last minute, spur of the moment kind of deal, and I have Jenna and Georgina to thank for that! I was included in a conversation on Twitter about the event, which I previously hadn't heard of (I somehow manage to miss everything of value on Twitter, don't even ask me how). One thing led to another, arrangements were made and at 9am on Saturday 18th October I found myself in Kirkstall, waiting for Jenna and Yuna so we could grab some breakfast before heading over to Sheffield. We ended up on a bit of a magical mystery tour to get there, but once we did we had some amazing treats and surprises waiting for us!
Before I start, I must apologise for the poor quality pictures - I only had my phone on me, as I couldn't take my DSLR so had to manage with what I had! Anyway, the event was held in the Maveli South Indian restaurant in Sheffield City Centre, and was organised by the lovely Georgina, Heather and Ashleigh. As soon as we arrived, we were led straight to the goody bags and told to dive in - quite a refreshing change from the usual blogger event, where you feel you can't look inside them until you leave out of politeness! The goody bag was absolutely jam-packed full with some fantastic products, but you're going to have to wait until the next post to see them - yes, I have an entire post dedicated to the goody bag! So, after we had "oohed" and "aahed" at everything inside, we went to go have a look around. As you can see from the images, Lush were there in the form of the lovely staff from the Sheffield store - they were offering quick classes in how to make your own Ickle Baby Bot bath bomb (Which I of course had to get stuck in to), and also hand/arm massages using their own massage bars. I had one using the Tender Is The Night massage bar, which I fell in love with so much I ended up buying one of my very own. Oops!
It wasn't long until our curiousity led us to one corner of the restaurant, where there was a collection of wigs and other accessories. Georgina had brought them along so we could basically mess about and take silly pictures of ourselves and each other (Let's be honest, we are bloggers here and we do take an awful lot of selfies). It was such a random idea, but a stroke of genius - I don't think I've ever laughed so much at a blogger event before! I think that me, Jenna and Yuna were there for longer than was strictly necessary, but we all agreed that something like this should be a requirement at all future blogger events. Don't you think that I look fetching with neon red hair? Afterwards, I went to go watch Kim, a HD brow artist from Boudoir Salon Sheffield, work her magic on some very willing bloggers. Judging from the queue of very excited bloggers waiting her turn, she was kept busy for quite some time! I also went to go see Jan, who volunteers for the charity Look Good Feel Better. This charity supports women of all ages suffering from the visible side effects of cancer, by providing free skincare and make up workshops to improve their self-esteem and confidence. It's a fantastic charity that is relatively unheard of - as it is, I had never heard of it - and it was great to speak to someone who was so passionate about their cause.
A table that had everyone drawn to it was the table full of raffle prizes - and oh, what prizes they were! There were bottles of perfumes from Fragrance Direct, sets from Bee Good Skincare, a selection of make up products from The Balm, adorable necklaces from Candy Rocks Jewellery and Vivienne Westwood rings from Silvertree Jewellery - yes, you read that last one right! That's to name just a few. All proceedings from the raffle went to the aforementioned Look Good Feel Better, and in the end I believe the total raised was somewhere around £250. Not bad for a bunch of beauty-obsessed bloggers, eh? I sadly missed out on one of the Vivienne Westwood rings (However one deservedly went to one of the owners of the Maveli restaurant and another to Jan herself), however I did win a HD Brows experience which I donated to Yuna, as it wasn't my cup of tea. I was just pleased to see that we had raised so much money, and many bloggers went away with some fantastic prizes; a win-win situation all around.
I couldn't finish this post without talking about the food, and we were spoilt rotten. Maveli laid out the most beautiful spread of food directly from their kitchen about halfway through the day. To say that it was demolished pretty quickly is probably the understatement of the century! My favourite had to be the dessert, which I think was the Vattalappam from looking at the menu - I could have easily eaten two or three of these. However, I'm glad I didn't, as it turned out I needed to save some room for the final surprise of the day! Costello's Cakeaway arrived carrying armfuls of cake - and I mean literally armfuls! The room was all of a hush whilst they set up their display and told us about their company. The long of short of it is that they deliver cake to your door; whether that be home or at work, it means that cake is never more than a phone call away! Genius. They invited to us try some of their delicious looking offerings, and we didn't need to be asked twice. My personal favourites were the Lemon & Raspberry Crumble cake and the Chi-Town Brownie - I just had to buy a slice of the former to take home with me! Their prices start from just £1.50 per slice and offer everything from dessert pies to sponge puddings; I just wish that I lived in Sheffield so I could take advantage (Although my waistline is glad that I don't!)
Soon enough, it was time to stagger out of the door, weighed down with our goody bags and bellies full of delicious Indian food and cake. I want to thank Georgina, Heather and Ashleigh for putting so much time and effort into making a fantastic event - it was one of the most relaxed and chilled-out ones I've been to and I had a wonderful time. Thanks must also go to Jenna for giving me and Yuna a lift across to Sheffield, as I wouldn't have been able to make it otherwise! Stay tuned for my next post, where I will show you what was in my goody bag - be warned, it's a good'un.
