Review: Bobbi Brown Extra Bright Advanced Moisture Cream and Extra Eye Repair Cream
May 09, 2014
First things first: How long are the names for these two products?! I felt a bit silly writing it all out. Anyway, today I'm going to review for you these two creams from Bobbi Brown - one for the face, and the other for - you guessed it - the eyes. I received these generous samples at the Bobbi Brown event at the Leeds House of Fraser store just over two months ago. The eye cream I was particularly excited about, as I've heard many good things about it. These have seen regular use since then, including taking them with me on my trip to Bruges, and I feel like I can now tell you what I think about them. They both come with some pretty hefty claims, as well as prices, and I was eager to find out if they lived up to the hype.
Let's start by talking about the Extra Bright Advanced Moisture Cream* first, shall we? This is by far and away the most expensive cream I have ever used - £62.50 isn't much for some but it is for me, especially to spend on skincare. The claims that come with this are quite expansive; I won't go into them all, but the ones that especially appealed to me were that it was suitable for all skin types, is lightweight yet intensely moisturising and fades discolourations and unevenness over time. Despite the claims of it being lightweight, I knew straight away that I would use it just in the evening, as most moisturisers of this type are too rich for me to wear during the day. It does feel light on the skin, but it leaves a noticeable residue - which I don't mind at all if I'm just going to be in bed - and for me, wouldn't provide a good base to apply make up over. The texture is luxurious and smooth, with the scent being pleasantly citrusy and uplifting with a slight herbal note. As for the other claims - have I noticed any improvement to the uneven skintone that I unfortunately possess? It has to be said that I haven't noticed that yet, but I did notice some things that were of a huge benefit. I have some dry, bumpy skin around my jawline from my rosacea, and regular use of this cream has seen a reduction in this somewhat. It's not completely smooth as I'd like it to be, but there is a definite improvement. Also, when I am getting ready the next morning, I've noticed that my skin looks more healthy, brighter and glowing than it did previously. It is a little less red in some areas and feels plump and hydrated, whereas other times it can feel a bit tight and dry. Considering that I'm only using it at night, I am very impressed by the instant results that I see come the morning.
Moving right along to the Extra Eye Repair Cream*, and as already mentioned this is the one that I was most excited to try. I know that so many women swear by this as their "holy grail" eye cream and in generally is extremely well known in the beauty world. This rich eye cream claims to tackle fine lines, wrinkles, dark circles, puffiness and dryness head on and is advised to be used morning and night. However, as with the moisture cream, I only use this at night. This is because my eye area, especially underneath my eyes, gets very oily as the day wears on and any cream applied to it underneath any concealer makes it crease in record time. That being said, my eye area can also get very dry and sore, and is also quite sensitive, with some eye creams actually irritating my skin rather than soothing it. I also have some unpleasant dark circles to deal with on top of all that! The texture of this cream is very, very thick - much thicker than I was expecting, and you really need to work to get some product out of the tub. It almost feels like a balm rather than a cream. I apply by spreading between my two rings fingers, then patting onto the skin around my eyes. It's almost impossible to rub into the skin, which I see as a good thing as you're not meant to do that anyway! It does take a while to sink in, but it feels so soothing and nourishing that this doesn't bother me in the slightest. Results? The skin around my eyes is no longer dry and sore, and instead feels soft, comfortable and not irritated in the slightest. My dark circles, believe it or not, have actually been improved slightly and I find myself using less concealer than I did before. Also, the concealer that I am using applies smoother and therefore looks better - always a bonus! In general, my eyes just look healthier, brighter and more awake and these are the results that I look for in an eye cream. Without a doubt, this is honestly the best eye cream that I've ever used, and I don't say that lightly.
Final verdict: These are expensive, yes, but in this case I believe that the prices are justified for these two creams - especially when combined together. If you're looking to invest in some quality skincare, that you will want to continue using for preventing the signs of aging as you get older, I don't think you can go far wrong with these. A big thumbs up from me and I will be repurchasing the eye cream when it runs out!
The Bobbi Brown Extra Bright Advanced Moisture Cream and Extra Eye Repair Cream are available to buy from their online store, or from any of their counters, for £62.50 and £42.00 respectively.

I have a tiny sample pot of the eye cream hanging around somewhere & when I've used it I always like it but it always seems to get lost in my collection. I should fish it out & have another look at it :)
