My Necklace Display/Storage

Necklace storage display coat racks hooks

You know when you start to get too many of a certain item, and you run out of room to put them? Yeah, that. I hit that snag with my collection of statement necklaces a few months ago (I've also now got that problem with my rings and bracelets, but that's a story for another day). I had two hooks screwed onto the side of my bookcase that I was hanging all of my necklaces off, and to say that it was getting full was an understatement. I could never get to whichever necklace I was after, and more often and not just gave up in frustration and grabbed whatever happened to be at the front. They were also forever getting tangled together and one day I thought, enough's enough. I need a proper place to hang all of my necklaces without feeling like I want to commit murder every time I want to wear one!

I had a couple of ideas in mind, but the easiest and the cheapest was for me to purchase a wall mounted coat rack online. After searching high and low, I plumped for this one from Amazon, which only set me back £5.33 including postage. However, whilst I love the idea of using a coat rack on which to hang necklaces off, I would not suggest you buy that particular one. I know it was cheap - but there's cheap and cheerful, and then there's really crap quality. It works just fine for my fairly light necklaces, but I certainly wouldn't want to hang any coats off it! It arrived twisted, and with two pretty useless rawl plugs when there are three holes in the rack. If you look closely at the picture, you might be able to tell that the hooks are very wonky (Quite frankly I think a blind monkey could have done a better job at soldering them on straight) and the edges of the metal bar were not finished at all and quite sharp to touch. Nevertheless, it does the job and isn't going to be in my line of sight forever so it will do for now. I suggest that if you try this idea for yourself, that you invest in a better quality one than I did!

As you can see, I have attempted to create some kind of order with my necklaces; silver being on the left, with beads in the middle, then across to rose gold and yellow gold on the right. Whilst I need to hang a few necklaces off each hook, I can still get to them easily and as of yet, I've not encountered a tangling horror like I was doing regularly before! I can see everything that I own, and now am able to reach for necklaces that before were hidden under everything else. My very longest necklaces still live on the two hooks on the side of the bookcase, but I only have a small handful of those so I am quite happy to leave them there.

Do you like this idea for displaying your necklaces? How do you display yours?

I have a similar way of storing my necklaces, if you google "my jewellery necklace hanger" and click on the 'shopping' tab you will probably see something similar to what I use!
