Christmas/January Sales Haul 2014 (ASOS, Illamasqua, Leather Satchel Co. & more!)

January 16, 2014

Well, here it is - the post I've been waiting for weeks to write! If you follow me on Instagram, then you may have had a sneak peek at some of these items. Like last year, I did all of my sales shopping online, and was surprised to find that a lot of sales started before Christmas Day - I'm sure that it wasn't like that last year! Before we know it, we'll be having Christmas Sales in July at this rate! Last year's big purchases were shoes, but this year's was a bag that you'll see right at the end of this post. The bag was what I was waiting for because it was the last thing to arrive! My bank balance is looking more than a bit sorry for itself but I'm really pleased with everything that I managed to pick up. So, let's delve straight in...

Christmas January Sales 2014 Hotel Chocolat misellyre

Hotel Chocolat: Chilli Penguins £3.50, Dasher's Dream slab £1.87, Christmas Selection £4.25, Christmas Mess £1.87, Mince Pies & Milk £3.50, Snowy Santa £1.87

Last year, Martin bought me loads of chocolates from last year's Hotel Chocolat sale, and I absolutely loved them. So, when this year's rolled around I ordered all of this for me and Martin to share! All of these were half price or less. Most of them have been eaten now, but my stand out favourites were the Dark Chocolate Chilli Penguins and the Christmas Mess - absolutely delicious!

Christmas January Sales 2014 Matalan misellyre

Matalan: Black studded clutch bag, £5

One of the first websites I looked at for sales shopping was Matalan; partly because they sent me an email but I would have ended up on there anyway! There wasn't much that caught my eye, except for this bag and the dress below. I wanted an all-black bag to go with pretty much any outfit, so I figured for half price this was worth picking up. It comes with a long strap and is quite big for a clutch bag.

Christmas January Sales 2014 Matalan misellyre

Matalan: Necklace prom dress, £17.50

Back at the end of November, I bought the red leopard print version of this to wear to my work's Christmas do. I fell in love with the style, shape and fit of the dress and had no idea a black version existed, until one of the girls I work with wore this dress to the do! This one comes with a detachable necklace, which is actually quite nice and is a leopard spot textured fabric.

Christmas January Sales 2014 ASOS misellyre

ASOS: Red textured blazer, £17.50*

I was a bit disappointed with the ASOS sale, to tell you the truth. I was hoping to pick up some jewellery but there was next to nothing that I liked! I did however find this blazer, and after a bit of uhmming and aahing I ordered it. It's a bit out of my comfort zone because it's bright red and textured, but I absolutely love it. It's extremely soft and quite thick - good for those cooler days.

Christmas January Sales 2014 ASOS misellyre

ASOS: Leather look skater dress, £17.50*

The only other item that I saw in the ASOS sale was this dress. It's a little shorter than I'd usually go for and I've never owned anything in pleather apart from jackets, so I was curious to see how it worked. It's actually surprisingly flattering, nipping me in at the waist and quite comfortable to wear. I will definitely be wearing this one with tights however as it would be quite breezy without them!

Christmas January Sales 2014 Illamasqua misellyre

Illamasqua: Freak 30ml Coffret with 'Baptiste' Nail Polish and 'Sophie' Medium Pencil, £20

This brand is quite a new discovery for me. I visited the Leeds store with a friend before Christmas, and amongst buying some nail polishes I had a sniff of the Freak Scarab perfume and fell in love. When I saw that this coffret of the original fragrance was reduced from £65, I snapped it up quick! The fact that it comes with a gorgeous nail polish and a pencil makes it an absolute bargain.

Christmas January Sales 2014 Illamasqua misellyre

Illamasqua: Nail Polishes in 'Kink' and 'Harsh', £5 each

Considering that Illamsqua's polishes sell for £15 a pop, I couldn't leave these little beauties behind. I have a small collection of their polishes and the quality is fantastic, so I knew that these were a wise investment. 'Kink' is actually a rubber finish - I have a purple one and know that they look amazing. Harsh is a fine, densely packed silver glitter that looks like it could be opaque in a couple of coats.

Christmas January Sales 2014 Fragrance Direct misellyre

Fragrance Direct: Sally Hansen Nail Strips in 'Blue Ice' and 'Check It Out' £1.79 each, L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadows in 'Forever Pink', 'Endless Chocolat' and 'Sassy Marshmallow' £1.50 each

My biggest order by far was from Fragrance Direct, but it ended up being one of the cheapest! I couldn't believe it when I saw the Sally Hansen strips for so little; they usually retail for £7.99 but for this price, I'm finally able to give them a go. I've had my eye on the eyeshadows for a while now and I've read some great reviews on them - however I wasn't expecting the last one to be blue!

Christmas January Sales 2014 Fragrance Direct misellyre

Fragrance Direct: Maybelline Color Show in 'Urban Turquoise' 60p, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in 'Pumice', 'Thinking of Blue', 'Gilded Lily' and 'Blue Rose' £1.49 each

Fragrance Direct have had the Sally Hansen range for a while, but I wasn't aware of the Maybelline one being available previously. They didn't have that many shades left, so for the sake of giving them a go I settled on just the one. I wanted to add some blue shades to my collection, and yes they are different! 'Thinking of Blue' is stronger and darker than 'Blue Rose' - it doesn't really show in the photo.

Christmas January Sales 2014 Fragrance Direct misellyre

Fragrance Direct: NYC Expert Last in 'Platinum Card', 'Rosy Nose', 'Boundless Berry', 'Midnight Confetti' and 'Velvet Rope', 60p each

NYC was another brand that I wasn't aware of being on Fragrance Direct, but when I saw them for 60p I couldn't add any to my basket quick enough! They're cheap polishes anyway but it would have been rude not to at that price, am I right? I've not tried any of them yet but my favourites have to be 'Rosy Nose' and 'Boundless Berry' - two completely unique shades in my very large collection.

Christmas January Sales 2014 Fragrance Direct misellyre

Fragrance Direct: Rimmel Lycra Pro in 'Camouflage Chic', Rimmel 60 Seconds in 'Grey Matter' and 'Aye, Aye, Sailor' 99p each

I've recently become a big fan of the Rimmel 60 Seconds range, and they had such an overwhelming choice on the website I didn't know where to start! I managed to narrow it down to these two and yes... that is another blue. Think I'm good for a while now! 'Camouflage Chic' caught my eye, and when I searched for swatches I couldn't get it out of my head so in the basket it went.

Christmas January Sales 2014 The Leather Satchel Company misellyre

The Leather Satchel Company: Patent Oxblood 12.5" Satchel, £97.50 (£107.50 with embossing)

I've saved the biggest and best purchase until last! I've been wanting a leather satchel for a long time, and had my heart set on an oxblood one from The Cambridge Satchel Company. However, I stumbled across The Leather Satchel Company when comparing brands and this was (and still is) in the sale, reduced from £141. I ended up choosing between this and a grey one from Zatchels and everyone told me to get this, and I'm so, so glad I did! I will be writing a post about it in the near future but it is absolutely beautiful. I decided to go the whole hog and get my initials blind embossed for a bit extra, making it personal to me. This was a hefty investment for me, but one that will hopefully last me a lifetime.
