Review: Anatomicals No Old Bags Allowed Eye Gel

October 04, 2013

Every so often, things come along at just the right time and that was definitely the case with this product. I had just run out of my sample of REN's eye gel, and when I attended the Leeds Meet Up this was in my goody bag - perfect! I have used it every morning since (I have a more heavy-duty eye cream for night time) and now feel able to tell you how I feel about it.

Before I delve into the product itself, can we just talk about the name? It made me laugh out loud when I read it for the first time and it still raises a smile from me most mornings. All of their products are named in a similar witty fashion. I would love to know who comes up with the names of these, they should be being paid a fortune! They also have funny little scripts on both the cardboard and tube packaging and a tagline that appears on every product "We only want you for your body". Martin thought this was a bit odd but it tickled me, that's where our senses of humour must differ I think.

This is a refreshing clear eye gel, containing the ingredients arnica and orange flower water. As mentioned above I only use this in the mornings and I think that is how the product is supposed to be used. It's aim is to help your eyes wake up first thing, cool the eye area and make them feel brighter and more alert. Nowhere - apart from the name - does it say that it specifically targets problem areas, such as eye bags, wrinkles or dark circles so I presume that it helps generally improve the feel of whole eye area, even if it's only temporarily. The tube looks a bit small but only the very smallest amount is needed for both eyes (no bigger than a pea), so this will last me forever and a day.

I've been using this for a few weeks now, just after cleansing and before I apply my make up. I squeeze some onto my ring finger and pat it onto my whole eye area, concentrating on the under-eye. On application it feels lovely and cooling, and it definitely helps my eyes feel more ready for the day. It sinks in quickly, doesn't leave any residue behind and make up sits well on top of it. In terms of other benefits, it hasn't reduced any dark circles nor particularly moisturised my skin - but then it doesn't claim to. I don't really get puffy eyes so I can't comment on that, but other reviews have seen positive results on that front. I think that this product is more about how it makes you feel rather than actually improving anything, and for such a cheap price I'm quite happy with that!

Final verdict: If you struggle with getting yourself fully awake in the morning and your eyes feel heavy, I would highly recommend this - you'll instantly feel a bit more perked up!
