Alegría - A Cirque du Soleil production at the O2, London

April 04, 2013

I know I can't be the only one who has heard of the Cirque du Soleil... surely? Well, if you haven't you are about to find out about their latest production! Touring around the world this year is Alegría, a circus arts performance that promises to take your breath away. The show was created way back in 1994 by directors Franco Dragone and Gilles Ste-Croix, and until 2009 had toured the world for 15 years. Now it has been brought back for the arena and is just about to start its European tour. Alegría is unique in its production and is a big step away from their previous bright, colourful performances. Despite the name meaning "jubilation" in Spanish, this show uses darker lighting and impressive props such as gothic arches to create "A baroque ode to the energy, grace and power of youth." If that doesn't persuade you to go see the show, then perhaps the music will. The soundtrack to Alegría is incredibly popular and is their bestselling album to date, despite the huge number of productions they have made!

Before me and Martin went to London recently, I spent ages looking for a night out that wasn't the usual play at the West End, and I so wish that this was running when we went! It's right up our street and if we venture to London for a summer trip I would be very tempted to go and pop our Cirque du Soleil cherry!

The Cirque du Soleil is bringing their production of Alegría to the O2 in London, where is has a run of four nights from Thursday 18th July to Sunday 21st July 2013. If this sounds like your cup of tea, tickets are available to buy for the Cirque Du Soleil London from the O2 website.

Have you ever seen a performance by the Cirque du Soleil? What do you think of this production?
