Top: Ciate Caviar £18 each
Bottom: MUA Nail Constellation £3 each
This is a dupe I'm sure most of you are familiar with! Not so long ago, Ciaté introduced a "new" manicure called Caviar - basically various coloured microbeads you can put onto your fingernails. The thing that really annoyed most of us though was how Ciaté attacked anyone who dared to use the term "caviar" for a nail trend that had actually been around long before Ciaté decided to use it as a money spinner. I feel very sorry for anyone who fell for their marketing ploy because let me tell you... a tiny bottle of microbeads and a nail polish is not worth £18 whichever way you swing it! So, when MUA told us about their "Nail Constellation" range a lot of us cheered! Whereas Ciaté have the cheek to charge £18 for "their" manicure, MUA charge a much more reasonable £3 and they have a bigger range of shades available. MUA also have a cleverly designed bottle that can be used as a funnel to stop you wasting those excess beads.
Normally I would stop there, but most of us know that in all honesty you can buy microbeads on places like eBay for just a few pounds. Like I said previously, this trend was already happening before Ciaté even noticed it - these microbeads were always available to buy from elsewhere, but it is only now that they are being marketed as "nail art beads"!
Final verdict: If you want a premixed selection of shades to try out, you can't go wrong with MUA's Nail Constellations. If you want a particular shade or want to mix your own, eBay is your friend... and if you want to be ripped off, place an order on Ciaté's website!

Its ridiculous how much big brands will try and charge. People are paying for a label! My favourite nail constellation is Pisces :) perfect s/s pastels! I wish they'd released all the star signs though, would love to have a Taurus x
ReplyDeleteExactly! Ciate do some lovely polishes but this left a bad taste in my mouth. I wish they would too, maybe they will in the future! x
DeleteIts common most commodities when they had a recognition consumers will tend to bought most of the product by its name.
ReplyDeleteLove that gemini nail constellation, but I'am a cancer. Is there an explanation such they use zodiac for colours combination?
Oh yeah, definitely! No idea why they used zodiac signs - why not I guess! x
