JolieBox November 2012

November 21, 2012

I'm sure that many of you will have seen that JolieBox have come under fire this month. For those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, basically the box this month is not what a lot of people were expecting and a lot of people feel that JolieBox have let them down. Click the link below to read my thoughts on this month's box!

I must point out before I go into the box's contents that I think that a lot of people have forgotten what JolieBox is meant to be. To quote their website, JolieBox is "filled with 4 to 5 exclusive, hand-picked beauty samples". Just a point to consider! Moving on, the theme this month is "Beauty in the City" - celebrating their collaboration with Birchbox they are offering us their "favourite up-and-coming brands recommended by each of our headquarters". The products featuring this month are Yardley Royal Diamond, Topicrem Sparkling 3D Effect Body Moisturiser, Dead Sea Spa Magik Gentle Cleansing Facial Wash, Marvis Cinnamon Mint toothpaste, Jane Iredale Glow Time BB Cream and Vertumne a Venus Moisturising and Regenerating Hand Cream.

I (and everyone else, surely) has heard of this brand and probably knows them quite well. Yardley do have a reputation of only being suitable for old ladies but this year they have really tried hard to market to a younger audience. I would have preferred Royal English Daisy as I know I like that one, but this scent is quite nice - although I have to admit it's not my cup of tea. The sample was also a nightmare to open!

This reminded me of those moisturisers I used to buy when I was about 9/10 and was going to a school disco! However this is a very relevant product to include for this season so kudos to JolieBox. This moisturiser leaves an impressive shimmer without being glittery, and I can see myself giving it a go for my work's Christmas do. It also smells quite nice, if a bit generic for a body moisturiser.

Even though this brand have featured heavily in previous beauty boxes, weirdly this is the first product from them that I have received! I have to admit that I am not a fan of foaming cleansers as they leave my face feeling tight and dry, however I will give this a go. Maybe I'll be proven wrong? I think that this is quite a generous sample size from Dead Sea Spa Magik.

Is it bad that is was the only product in the box that I got excited over? Yes, it is a toothpaste but with a flavour like cinnamon mint I can't wait to give it a try! As you would expect me to say the packaging is to die for and I can see my boyfriend Martin grabbing this with both hands to try. I'm hoping that it tastes as good as it smells, although I'm not sure how clean it will leave my mouth feeling!

This is a brand that we've had a couple of times before from JolieBox, and this time the product is a BB cream. The card that the sample is attached to says that it is available in six shades - I received shade BB5 which I don't think is the one that I would have picked if I were to buy it myself. I'm assuming they used the information given on our Jolie Profiles to send us an appropriate shade for our skin tones!

Finally is a sample of hand cream from France... and straight up I have to say that I don't like it at all! It is very runny and left my hands feeling greasy. The scent is also not up my street, it reminded me of Elizabeth Arden's scent which I genuinely can't stand. When it eventually sank into my skin my hands felt moisturised but no more than usual, which was a disappointment.

Like last month's box, I am not impressed by this month's offering. None of the products except for one made me want to try them, and with some of the sample sizes being so small, it would be difficult for me to form an opinion on them once I do. The killer with this month however is how much this box is worth. Normally I never bother with working out the "total" of each box, and I haven't this month but other bloggers have worked out that this month's products add up to a measly sum of around £5.40. When you think that the box cost £10 and £2.95 P+P, this is a pretty unacceptable deal. With beauty boxes I hope to receive products that, when totaled, at least work out to be the same value as the box. More often than not they are worth a lot more and therefore offer great value for money, but I have never heard of one being less. I'm not sure how JolieBox are going to handle this one but I hope they have an explanation!

Even though I have been getting more and more disappointed with JolieBox with each month, I'm not giving up on them yet. Their next box will be the Christmas one and I'm hoping that they really push the boat out. Also, with their partnership with Birchbox starting in the new year I will wait to see what they have in store before making up my mind!

You can sign up to JolieBox via their website, and it costs £12.95 for one box per month.

  1. im glad it wasnt just me dissapointed with this months box - unfortunately i didnt even get the toothpaste but yet another l'occitane small moisturiser pot which ive had about 3 times this yr in beauty box and joliebox.
I thought the contents were nothing special and havent used any of them this month just passed them on. I do hate sachets that you would get stuck to a magazine page.
If the Xmas box is as rubbish im unsubbing.

    1. Yeah, I noticed that people got very different products again this month - it used to be a good point with Joliebox that everyone's boxes were the same, now they're not :/
