Review: Stylfile

September 28, 2012

I seem to be on a roll with reviewing Leeds Blogger Meet Up products, don't I? I do review other products, promise! This time around this review features the Stylfile, which I had heard about before. I'm sure that this was one of those products that are on TV adverts and things like that... the ones that are available at places like Wilkinsons, Asda etc? I might be wrong but it feels like one of those products to me!

Stylfile is, quite simply, a curved nail file. An idea so simple in fact it's baffling that no one else had thought of it before! The Stylfile was invented by Tom Pellereau, who I'm sure you'll remember won the 2011 series of The Apprentice. Tom claims that he came up with the idea when watching his sister filing her nails, and with a little help from Sir Alan Sugar the Stylfile was born. Because the file is in an 'S' shape, it follows the curve of the nail and "makes filing quick and easy".

This file, like most others you can buy, has two surfaces; one to file, another to smooth. What makes this file extra special though is the claim that due to the specially selected abrasive, it should last for up to 12 months. Considering that all my other nail files (cheap ones from places like Bodycare) barely last me a month, this would be a pretty impressive feat. Obviously I have not used it for this long, but the abrasive does feel good quality and I don't see it wearing down any time soon.

In all honesty, I am really impressed with the Stylfile. It does seem like a bit of a gimmick, but the 'S' shape really does make it easier to file my nails. I usually struggle to get a nice shape when filing, but the Stylfile makes it a lot easier to have that nice, natural curve that many of us crave. Also when filing I tend to get funny little bits of nail that never seem to go away... in other words it is difficult for me to get a completely smooth nail edge. With this file, that problem has 99% gone and I suspect that it is due to the quality of the abrasive. To finish, the smoothing surface helps to smooth things off perfectly and is of just a high a quality as the filing side.

Final verdict: If you struggle with filing your nails into that perfect shape, this is the perfect solution for you! The quality is impressive and it is worth spending a few extra pounds on.

Stylfile* is available to buy from Amazon for £4 inc P+P.

    1. It does take some getting used to! It definitely got me out of the habit of 'seesawing' my nails as it's pretty much impossible to do! xx
