JolieBox August 2012

August 25, 2012

I was only thinking the other day about how long ago it seemed to be that I last had a JolieBox... then I remembered that they were sending them out a little later this month! They claimed that this was due to people going on holidays and I have to be honest and say that this annoyed me a bit... not everyone are going on holidays you know? Anyway, it arrived quickly once again, I must applaud their decision to change delivery service as it was much quicker than before. Click below to find out what's in this month's box!

The box this month was designed by Timai Hua, and came in several different colour variations. I absolutely love the design of this month's box, please make it a permanent design JolieBox?! This is one box that won't be getting consigned to the recycling bin just yet.

The JolieMag this month is focused on holiday products; beauty items that are on trend right now and how to recover from summer. It also featured interviews with a blogger and a girl who works for Grazia. This month's theme is "A JolieHoliday", meaning the box was full of "summer saviors" to help us girls through the last month of summer.

In this month's box there are five products for us to try. These are Dr Bronner's Pure-Castile Soap 'pillows', Phil Smith Be Gorgeous Dry Shampoo, So Susan Cosmetics Lip Cushion, So Susan Cosmetics Wide Awake Face Palette and a JolieBox leather hair styling lace.  Also included as a little extra was a free download for a song by The Nodz... I've never heard of them but I might give it a listen!

Now I have to admit that when I saw the words "lip cushion" I was expecting something along the lines of a EOS balm or even a product similar to Maybelline's Dream Bouncy Blush... was it just me? So when I opened the box I was a little disappointed to find a pretty small, regular pot of lip gloss in an oversized box. However, it is a nice shade and it smells just like Calpol, which is pretty awesome in itself! The box describes it as having a "squishy, elastic texture" and I see what they mean - it feels like hard jelly. The brand was known as Jelly Pong Pong not so long ago, which explains why the product feels familiar.

When I saw this product the first thing I thought of was that it should've been in last month's box! For taking to festivals or on holiday this would have been perfect, however with the festivals almost over and most people on their holidays right now this seems a little redundant. That being said, I'm going on holiday myself in October, so this will be going in my luggage as it is the perfect size. It smells pleasant enough, a bit like perfume and also a bit like cucumber, which is nice and refreshing.

I read this on the menu and was intrigued... hair styles with a lace? I have seen them in shops before but had never considered actually using one. Now that my hair is long enough I'd like to give this a try, but the problem is I don't know how! Apparently JolieBox are going to be uploading videos on their YouTube channel to show us how to use hair laces, so I'm looking forward to seeing those. To be honest I would have preferred a more natural colour like brown or black, but beggars can't be choosers and all that!

Another product perfect for festivals and the like, these are some pretty special soaps from Dr Bronner. I have tried his soap before thanks to GlossyBox but I wouldn't have wanted to take it on holiday, which is definitely what I'll be doing with these. The magical thing about these are the "18-in-1" uses - from everything to washing your hair to cleaning fruit, even brushing your teeth with it (I wouldn't recommend though - it tastes vile!) it pretty much covers it all. I love using these to clean my make up brushes and Martin likes to use them as shampoo - however I will try the unscented one as a face wash and the rest as body washes this time around!

Another product from So Susan, this time a face palette. Some people get a bit annoyed when multiple products from the same brand feature in the same box - I'm not bothered in the least, as long as they are completely different products! This looks like a good quality kit, including an illuminating cream, highlighting cream, eyebrow powders, tweezers and a small brush. I'm looking forward to giving the creams a try but the eyebrow powders are a little confusing... they appear to be glittery and the top shade is definitely purple in real life! I will be trying these as eyeshadows instead, and the tweezers and brush will be living at Martin's house seeing as I'm always forgetting mine.

All in all I was pleased with this month's box - it is probably my least favourite out of all of the JolieBox's I've had, but all the products will get used at some point and I'm looking forward to trying them all. I had only heard of Dr Bronner before this box (apart from JolieBox but that doesn't count), so it's opened my eyes to some new brands, which is sort of the point isn't it!

You can sign up to JolieBox via their website, and it costs £12.95 for one box per month.

  1. what a brilliant box! I'm so glad you popped this in your blog as I think I need to subscribe to them. Would you say this has been your consistent experience with them? I used to get Feel Unique's box but they stopped which makes me do a very super sad face.

    Great post!

    1. JolieBox is my favourite beauty box by far, I've never had a problem with them! Even the month when I didn't receive one, the customer service was brilliant and I got my money back 2 days later. I've always been happy with JolieBox and don't foresee me stopping my subscription to them (unless something bad happens to me money-wise anyway!) Thank you! :) x

  3. They really do seem to leave it to the very last minute every time, bit weird! I was really silly and thought they said they were sending them earlier so i was baffled when it got to yesterday and i still hadn't received mine! Loved reading what you had to say!
