Review: Soap & Glory Love at First Blush

September 03, 2012

Out of all the cosmetics I was dying to try from the range, this was the top of my list. I've only started to get into blusher very recently. Long story short, my cheeks are usually quite red all the time, so I never felt the need to add any more to it! Recently however I've been attempting some contouring (with not much success I might add) and saw the benefits of adding a light touch of blusher to the mix. With this in mind I had high hopes for this blusher being the perfect one for me!

Before I delve into the product itself, let's just take a moment to look at the packaging... I mean, wow. Isn't it just amazing? As always, I love the design but the actual quality of the packaging really impressed me. The blusher is housed in a sturdy cardboard compact and also includes a mirror... which also had a plastic covering over it to stop it from getting dirty! It seems silly to notice such a little thing but it's details like this that scream quality to me, which is what I have come to expect from Soap & Glory.

This blusher is finely milled, and is velvety-soft to the touch. When using a brush you need to work to get the product onto it, which some might see as a pain - but for me, it just means that it's almost impossible to put too much on! The only thing that I must mention is that this blusher is shimmery; but I find that it is the perfect amount of shimmer. It's not enough to make you look like a glitterbomb, but enough to deliver a healthy, dewy glow to the cheeks. It's just worth keeping that in mind if you like to be a bit heavy-handed with your blusher!

There is currently one shade of blusher, available in "Pink, Pop & Pearl". I have no idea if Soap & Glory are planning on releasing more shades, but this is a fairly safe choice that would suit most skin tones. The name of the shade is actually quite accurate, because as you will see above this is not a singular shade of blusher. It is actually quite a multipurpose product containing two shades of blush, two shades of bronze and one highlight (repeated twice). This means that you could swirl your brush all across the product to get a mixture of all the shades, or use a smaller brush to pick out a highlight, blush or bronzer. For reference, the swatch below is from a brush being swept across all the shades.

For most, this blusher is perfect for giving you that "English Rose" glow, that lasts pretty much all day. The pan is a really good size, allowing you to get the whole brush into it without missing any of the shades, and with segments big enough to work with the individual shades. Due to the mirror, it is perfect for popping into your bag for touch ups on the go. However, this compact is kept together by a magnetic closure, so there is a slight risk of it coming open in your bag, and the cardboard packaging also leaves it vulnerable to wear and tear. This is all nitpicking though and the quality of this blusher really speaks for itself in the long run!

Final verdict: A subtle blusher kit that is secretly a three-in-one little wonder. If you're looking for a blusher that will take you from day to night, this one is for you!

Love at First Blush can be found in Boots for £11, although it is currently on offer for just £8 in store and online. Grab it while you can!
