OPI The Amazing Spider-Man Miniature Collection (With swatches)

June 09, 2012

Remember my first Wednesday Wishlist post? Well in that post I included an OPI polish; it hadn't been released yet, but now it has and I couldn't be more thrilled to show you all the OPI The Amazing Spider-Man Miniature Collection!

I bought the collection from BuyaPowa, a brilliant co-buying website which works on the principle "Prices drop as people shop". At the moment the bulk of the products they offer are beauty themed, such as perfumes, moisturisers and eyeshadows. However they're expanding to include almost anything, from watches to cars (yes, cars, there was a Fiat 500 featured recently). In this particular instance, the OPI The Amazing Spider-Man collection popped up, with a starting/RRP price of £12.95. However, over time, and as more people joined the co-buy, this price dropped more and more until it reached its "best price" of £8.50 - saving me and the other co-buyers £4.45! The shipping cost £1.95, and arrived 5 days after the co-buy had closed.

Now onto the polishes... which is what you're all really here to see! The collection includes seven polishes, all based on the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man film, released in July. As always with OPI, they have created quirky names for each polish and in this selection there are four; Into the Night, Number One Nemesis, Just Spotted the Lizard! and Your Web or Mine?.

These are miniature bottles at 3.75ml each; a full size OPI is 15ml. In other words, in a miniature you're getting a quarter of the amount of product compared to full size. Unlike the full size bottles, these don't include the names on the bottom which is a little disappointing; although in fairness, I don't see how they would be able to fit each name on!

Your Web or Mine? is a shimmery, rose pink frost. Personally I don't see how this fits into the collection at all; at a push I imagine it would be based on Gwen Stacey but there is another polish for that, Call Me Gwen-Ever. Wouldn't a bold, bright red be a bit more appropiate? I think this is a dated pink shade that is quite unflattering. The formula was great though, a one-coater - although I used two coats for the application above.

Just Spotted the Lizard! is the shade that I bought the miniature collection for - and I wasn't disappointed! It is a beautiful, gold-green metallic duochrome shade that changes between the colours depending on how the light hits it. You can see the brush strokes quite easily, which I think is its only downside. It took three coats for full opacity. Apparently this a dupe for Chanel Peridot, although I haven't got that polish to compare it with.

Number One Nemesis is a difficult shade to describe! To me it varies, but primarily it is a silver glitter in a grey-green base. In different lights it can lean very much either way; but the glitter at times almost appears multicoloured! It truly is a stunning polish in the flesh, but as always with these polishes, impossible to capture on camera. It is very sheer and after three coats the nail line is still visible, which you can just about make out.

Into the Night is a metallic, electric blue which looks fantastic in the sunlight. To me, this is a perfect shade for The Amazing Spider-Man and is what I imagine the blue parts in his suit would look like! It is so bright that you can't help it catching your eye, it's just beautiful and brightens up a dull day for sure. The formula isn't very good to be honest, after three coats it is still a little bit streaky but is just enough to get away with.

Out of all of the polishes, my obvious favourite has to be Just Spotted the Lizard, and my least favourite is Your Web or Mine? - I think I'll save that one for nail art to make it appear a little less offensive! Overall I'm really pleased with the miniature collection and the quality of the polishes was no more or less than I expected. I don't know if I'll ever run out of these but if I did, I would happily repurchase and I think these miniature collections are a great way to get a feel for OPI's products.

Have you purchased any of OPI's miniature collections? What do you think of them?
