This has to be a first for me - my latest nail polish features a polish that I wore almost exactly a month ago! Although, to be fair we've all had a bit of a blogging break over Christmas, haven't we? This is what I chose to wear on my nails for my work's Christmas do. My dress was red and gold and I was wearing gold jewellery, so it seemed only natural to wear gold glitter on my nails! This was a bit of a experiment and I didn't really know how it'd work out, but I think it turned out really quite well in the end.

I wanted a full-coverage glitter on my nails - rather than a solid colour with a smattering of glitter. I knew that this would take a lot of coats to achieve with a glitter on it's own, so I decided that I would layer a colour underneath as a base. I picked Nailgirls Gold out of my collection; it's a champagne gold shimmer that is opaque in two coats, and is one of my favourite polishes to date. What I was lacking in my collection however, it you would believe it, was a simple gold glitter. I owned every colour glitter under the sun apart from gold, it seemed! So, I popped into Superdrug and managed to find Barry M's Gold Glitter - it was exactly what I was looking for, and being a fan of Barry M polishes I knew that it would perform well.

I layered one coat of Nailgirls Gold under two layers of Barry M's Gold Glitter, and this was enough to achieve the full glitter effect that I needed. The Barry M glitter could have possibly been opaque in two coats, however I was mindful of taking this off and we all know how much of a pain that can be! Both polishes were a dream to work with; the Nailgirls was smooth and quick to dry, and the Barry M glitter had a nice even spread across the nails with one stroke, without having to dab any about. The texture of the finished look was a bit gritty, but not nearly as much as I was expecting - it was easily leveled out by a sweep of clear top coat. Both polishes are ones that I will be using again and again, and have a well deserved place in my ever-growing collection!

Nailgirl polishes are available from their online store for £5-£13.50 each - however, this particular shade is no longer available. Barry M Gold Glitter is available to buy from Superdrug and Boots for £2.99.
